What's involved?

Our membership recruiter role enables you to get out and about across your local area attending an interesting variety of venues and events (including large summer events). You’ll meet different people every day, get to talk about a cause you care about and work independently with support.

Working independently
Membership recruiters work independently, or sometimes in pairs at large events, supported by a sales team manager and membership sales manager. Flexible working pattern This is a permanent role, with people tending to work two to three days a week with at least one of those at the weekend. Zero hours contracts are also available if flexibility is important. Hours can vary depending on the event but are typically 10am-4pm.

Engaging equipment
Local Wildlife Trust-branded uniform, a range of lightweight stands, and marketing materials are provided for setting up engaging displays so a full driving license and access to a vehicle is needed. You can also use your creativity to further enhance your stand to inspire people’s interest.

Pre-booked venues and events
Venues and events are pre-booked by a venue co-ordinator in our central Exeter office dedicated to a local Wildlife Trust area. They manage the membership recruiter diaries, provide set-up details of where to go and what to expect at each venue, and are your other friendly point of contact.

Support and training
Following a successful application, membership recruiters have an initial induction held locally which includes a three-day office-based workshop. This is supplemented by two field shadow days with an experienced colleague. Full ongoing support is provided, including regular training.

Team away days are hosted by local Wildlife Trust nature reserves to show how membership makes a difference!

FAQ

What does a Membership Recruiter do?

A Membership Recruiter engages with the public at pre-booked venues and events to inspire people to support their local Wildlife Trust through membership and regular donations. This involves setting up displays, having meaningful conversations about wildlife conservation, and securing long-term supporters.

What skills and experience do I need to apply?

We’re looking for people who are confident communicators, passionate about wildlife, and able to build rapport with the public. Previous experience in sales, fundraising, or customer service is beneficial but not essential. Full training is provided.

What are the working hours and contract options?

Most recruiters work part-time, though full-time opportunities may be available for experienced candidates. You can choose between a permanent contract or a flexible zero-hours arrangement. Weekend and public holiday work may be required.

Is there career progression in this role?

Yes! Many Membership Recruiters go on to take on additional responsibilities, such as mentoring new team members, delivering training, or helping to source and manage event venues. There are also opportunities to progress into Team Manager roles, where you can support and oversee other recruiters.

Do I need to have great knowledge of UK wildlife?

No, you don’t need to be a wildlife expert! A general interest in nature and conservation is helpful, but full training is provided.
